My upbringing was in a Christian home where I remember the quiet
steering of parents who loved the Lord. Although sincere, my parents did
not make any demands on me but I was covered in prayer and when I raised
questions about spiritual matters they were there to respond and inform.
It was not until I was at teacher training college that I realised
that the missing piece or peace in my life could only be filled by
Christ. So At the age of 23 made the final commitment of receiving
Christ into my life and being baptised in water. I began seeking
different ways of finding out more about Jesus and also passing this on
to others. A group of the ‘young’ people at the church I was
attending agreed to provide music for a special service and it was out
of this that six of us started travelling around the villages of
Lincolnshire visiting small churches and in our own little way helping
the faithful by providing a stimulus for evangelism.
Both
at this time and through out my life God has never left me wondering
what I was to do next. He has lead me through my profession in nursing
and in nurse education, His family, the church has nurtured me in a
number of different situations and He has given me my own loving, caring
and supportive family. The answers didn’t always come immediately or
in the way I expected them but they always came. Each day I continue to
prove the existence of a loving caring God who is eager to festoon me
with blessings. As I walk in His way I learn more about Him but most of
all I recognise the immense amount of knowledge I lack. I am however,
consoled by the writings of Paul the apostle in his first letter to the
Corinthians and I commend his words to you right now,
"We
don’t see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through
a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun
shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God
sees us, knowing Him directly just as He knows us!" 1
Corinthians 13:12 (Peterson, 1993, The Message)
Until we meet with Him again, my task and yours is to…
"…trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love
extravagantly. And the best of the three is love."
